Bruin Girls Get Back on Track Against Cascade Christian

Coach Schofield and his Bruin girls basketball team hosted Cascade Christian for the second time in three days, tipping off their fourth game in a six day span Monday night, coming off a tough loss Saturday against the Sutherlin Lady Bulldogs.

Faith Burton, #4, had 7 points including two 3 pointers.

A different Bruin girls team than we saw in Saturday’s contest took the floor Monday evening, showing no signs of fatigue from the brutal stretch of regular scheduled games while fitting in make up games. The Lady Challengers, also coming off a difficult schedule stretch, could not keep up with the Bruin girls from the tip, as a high energy Bruin girls team was determined to set the pace early and put Saturday’s game behind them.

Rockette Marrington, #12 had 14 points including two 3 pointers.

The Bruin girls defense again dropped into soft pressure on the ball handler and immediately disrupted passing lanes and closed off the paint denying second shot opportunities dominating the boards. The Bruin girl defense allowed only 1 Lady Challenger point in the period, and rolled up 14 points led by point guard #12 Rockette Marrington with 4 points.

Zoe Carlson #11, had 5 points in the game.
Skylar Gallagher #3, driving into the paint for 2 points.

Jumping out to a 14-1 lead, the Lady Challengers went to work in the paint and the Bruin girl defense sent the Cascade Christian girls to the line 6 times as the Lady Challengers put 9 points up in the period. But the Bruin girls had five girls in the scorebook in the second period, led again by Marrington with 7 of the Bruin girls 18 points. Forward Marissa Scott, #15 flexed her muscles in the paint for 4 points and guard Tristan Brouillard #1 had a 3 pointer.

Junior forward Marissa Scott, #15, had 6 points in the paint.

Now with a commanding 32-10 lead to start the third period, both teams went inside for points, as the Bruin girls fed Ashlyn Schofield #44 for 6 points in the paint and Marrington hit her second 3 pointer of the game. Again, the Bruin girl interior defense denied easy inside baskets, sending the Lady Challengers to the line 6 times while holding Cascade Christian to 7 points as a team in the third period.

#44, Ashlyn Schofield for 2 of her 13 points.

The Bruin girls went on to secure the 53-20 win, advancing themselves to 5-1 in league play. “Girls were locked in defensively tonight,” coach Schofield said after the game, “and our turnover total was way down from Saturday, making this was a nice bounce back game for us.”

Charlie Nolte, #10, taking the shot from the outside.

The Bruin girls will be on the road to Winston Wednesday, to take on the 4-2 Lady Trojans at 7:00pm.
