Head Coach Tony Baron and his Bruin girls varsity softball team continued to score in big numbers, producing 67 runs in their past four games, scoring 45 runs against the Sutherlin Lady Bulldogs Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs struck first Thursday, getting a runner across the plate in first half of the first inning, to take a 0-1 lead before the Bruin girls went through their batting order scoring 7 times in the inning to take an early 7-1 lead.
Sutherlin put together some hits in the second, moving three runners the plate to regain the lead, but the Bruin girls would answer with three runs of their own to maintain a 10-4 lead going into the third inning.
Although the Lady Bulldogs would again score three in the first half of the fourth, the Bruin girls would put the game away in the third, scoring ten runs in their half of the inning, before ending the game in the next inning after adding two more runs to get the 22-7 win in the first game.
Junior Kami Koepnick, #7, with the homerun, went 4 for 6 with 8 RBI Thursday afternoon.
In the late game Thursday afternoon, Sutherlin found their offense early scoring four times to start the game, but the Bruin girls jumped on the Lady Bulldog pitching, crossing 5 runners across the plate in their half of the first.
The Lady Bulldogs again put runners in scoring position before scoring four more times in the top of the second to take an 8-5 lead halfway through the second.
But it looks like the third time through the line-up at the plate has been the key to the Bruin girls offense of late, again putting up double digit numbers on the scoreboard in the third after getting twelve more runs across the plate before taking the 23-13 win.
The Bruin girls will see action next hosting the now undefeated South Umpqua Lady Lancers in a April 20th, Saturday afternoon double-header.
