The Bruin girls varsity softball team started their post-season play on the road, traveling to Lincoln City, to take on the #7 ranked Taft Lady Tigers, coming into the game on a three game win streak with a record of 10-2.
The 8-4, #10 ranked Bruin girls and head coach Tony Baron, slid into the play-offs after an offensive slow down in their last games of the regular season, looking to breakout and advance to next round play.
The Bruin girls started at the plate late Wednesday afternoon, getting two on the basepaths, but failed to advance the runners or get anyone across the plate. Head coach Tony Baron sent senior Maddy Taylor, #22, to the circle, and the Lady Tigers crossed three runners across the plate to take an early 0-3 lead.
The bats stayed quiet for the Bruin girls in the second, failing to answer the Lady Tigers three run first. Taft took advantage, and got another 4 runs across the plate, establishing a comfortable 0-7 lead after two.
The Bruin girls would not score in the third, but Maddy Taylor and the Bruin girls defense would get out to the third holding the Lady Tiger scoreless.
In the fourth, Taft pitching would continue dominate the Bruin girls offense, holding Brookings scoreless for the four consecutive inning. The Lady Tigers would put the game away in the bottom of the fourth, scoring 4 runs, and take the play-off win, 0-11.
