Bruin Girls Dominate the Rogue River Lady Chieftains

Coming into their season opener, Kara Miller and her BHHS varsity girls basketball team came out confident and determined  to start the season with a win hosting the Rogue River Lady Chieftains Tuesday evening.

Freshman guard, Sawyer Adams, #10 driving inside for 2 of her 5 points.

The Lady Chieftains had no  answer for the fast paced Bruin girls attack and the Bruin girls wasted no time establishing an early lead, running up a 15-0 lead to start the game.

Junior forward, Adison Hodges, #33, in the paint for 2 of her 12 points in the game.

But it was the smothering Bruin girl defense that set the tone, relentlessly applying a full court press and refusing to allow the Lady Chieftains to establish any sense of offensive continuity and allowing no points in the first period.

Senior point guard, Amelia Bruce, #0, taking the outside shot for 2 of her 6 points.

Trailing 21-0 after the first period, the Lady Chieftains fought to get on the board but the Bruin girls continued to disrupt their offense and run on fast break opportunities, adding another 15 points to their lead while allowing only one Rogue River basket in the quarter and only four points in the half.

Freshman guard, Claire Pieper, #1 for 2 of her 7 points on the night.

With a commanding 36-4 lead, the Bruin girls picked up right where they left off to start the second half, again continuing to jump passing lanes and running off of Lady Chieftain turnovers putting up another nine points while holding Rogue River to just four points in the third.

Junior forward Ella Reneau, #32, driving the lane, had 6 points in the game.

Going into the fourth period with a 45-8 Bruin girls lead, the Lady Chieftains had their best quarter of the game offensively dropping seven points on the Bruin girls, who cruised to the final whistle adding three points in the period to take the 48-15 win.

The now 1-0 Bruin girls will take the show on the road to close out the first week of league play, traveling to Medford to challenge the St. Mary’s Lady Crusaders Friday night in Medford with tip off at 7:00pm.
