The Bruin girls basketball team had their first homegame since head coach Kara Miller made her way back to the coaching floor after suffering a personal injury over the holidays, and the Bruin girls did not disappoint, routing the Lady Trojans from the opening tip.
The 2-4 Lady Trojans were no match for the Bruin girls full court press, that allowed only 5 Douglas points in the first period, allowing the Bruin girls offense to run up a quick 16 point lead in the first period, led by Jaiden Babb with two 3-pointers in the period.
Now leading 21-5 to start the second period, the Bruins continued to keep the Lady Trojans off the board through the second, disrupting Douglas passing lanes and running fast breaks off the mistakes, overwhelming the Lady Trojans and piling up points to extend their lead to 22 points at half time.
In the third period, any Douglas adjustments made at the half, proved ineffective against a sharp Bruin girls attack and stingy defense. The Bruin girls refused any easy or open shot opportunities to the Lady Trojans, who continued to struggle offensively as the Bruin girls piled on the points getting three 3-pointers in the period from three different shooters, including Amelia Bruce, Jaiden Babb and Jaden Palmerin to extend their lead to 45-5 after three periods.
In the final period of play, the Bruin girls continued the pressure defense, keeping the Lady Trojans off the scoreboard once again while the Bruin girls offense continued to score, ending the game with a 43 point lead, and a 48-5 win.
The Bruin girls will be on the hardwood at home today, in a rare Saturday afternoon game taking on the undefeated powerful Sutherlin Lady Bulldogs, with tip off scheduled at 3:00pm, Saturday afternoon.
