The Bruin girls varsity softball team took advantage of home cooking and came out swinging Thursday afternoon, hosting North Valley.
The 4-8 Lady Knights made the trip from Grants Pass Thursday looking for a win coming off of a 2 game losing streak against Glide and wasted no time working a base runner around scoring to start the game.
But the Bruin girls bats would answer in the first, getting runners in scoring position and getting them across the plate as sophomore Kami Koepnick, #7, and junior Sonya Wraith, #19, both had doubles in the Bruins half of the first, scoring 5 runs.
The Lady Knights would add another 2 runs in their half of the second inning, and the Bruin girls would match putting together two more doubles to score 2 more runs.
Both teams would score in the fourth, before settling into a defensive battle in the fifth with the Lady Knights ultimately rallying back to tie the game in top of seventh inning.
But the Bruin girls would load the bases themselves in the bottom of the seventh, forcing Lady Knights pitching to walk in the final and winning run for the Bruin girls 10-9 victory.
In the second game of the afternoon double-header, the Bruin girls would again work runners around the bases early to score in the first and take an early lead over the Lady Knights. However, North Valley would would rally from behind again with no answer from the Bruin girls bats, giving the Lady Knights 4-9 win in the late game, splitting the double-header homestand.
The Bruin girls will see their next action Monday afternoon at home, hosting Bandon/Pacific in a non-legue match-up, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30pm.
