The Bruin girls were the second half of Tuesday evenings double feature as head coach Kara Miller and her Bruin girls varsity basketball team hosted the Coquille Lady Red Devils.
A very good Lady Red Devils team took control of the game early, shutting down the Bruin girls offense early allowing the Bruin girls only a single point in the first period of play as they took a 1-10 lead after the first period.
The Bruin girls fought for every opportunity they could in the second desperately trying to close the gap, using their defense to press the Coquille girls ball handler up the court, however, the Lady Red Devils kept the Bruin girls to just 6 points in the second as they took control of the contest scoring 19 points going into the locker room at the half time break.
In third, already leading 7-29, the Lady Red Devils kept of the pressure defensively jumping passing lanes and keeping the Bruin girls from establishing any offensive consistency with tough physical play inside and shutting down outlet passing lanes allowing only 2 Bruin girls points in the third period as Coquille put 14 more points on the board.
The Bruins girls defense slowed the Lady Red Devils in the fourth period, holding their offense to just 9 points in the final period as they continued to attack the basket, putting up together their best effort offensively with 7 points in the period, falling to the Lady Red Devils 16-52.
The Bruin girls will take on the Lady Panthers Friday evening when the Bruin girls host Gold Beach with tip off scheduled for 7:00pm.
