After being on the road over the past weekend in Medford and then Lakeview, the Bruin girls were happy to be home getting their rhythm back after suffering their first loss on the road to the Lady Honkers.
Hosting the 1-6 St. Mary’s Lady Crusaders and looking to establish control, the Bruin girls wasted no time jumping out to an early lead led by senior Marissa Scott, #15, who took control of the paint and hit for 5 points in the period. Junior forward Aleah Muro, #34, and #44, senior Ashlyn Schofield, each hit baskets in the first as the Bruin girls took and early 9-3 lead and never looked back.
In the second period the Bruin girls 2-3 defense pressured the Lady Crusader ball handler up the court slowing the St. Mary’s attack allowing the Bruin girls to get into defensive position and allowing only 3 points in the first half of the second period while extending their lead 17-6. Senior guard Rockette Marrington, #12, and Ashlyn Schofield each had 4 points in the period as the Bruin girls took a 19-12 lead to the locker room at the half.
Coming out of the halftime break, defense for the Bruin girls again shut down any adjustments made by the Lady Crusaders, allowing only two St. Mary’s players to score in the period, each getting one basket as the Bruin girls held the Lady Crusaders to just 4 points in the period.
Offensively, Schofield continued to lead the way for the Bruin girls, hitting two 3 pointers in the period scoring 8 points in the period as sophomore Jaden Palmerin, #22, Marissa Scott, and Rockette Marrington, #12, helped stretch the Bruin girls lead to 35-16.
With a comfortable 19 point lead going into the final period, seniors Rockette Marrington and Ashlyn Schofield took control of the game for the Bruin girls with a 3 pointer and two baskets in the paint for Marrington, and two more 3 pointers and two buckets for Schofield led to a 17 points period for the Bruin girls who would go on to take the 54-22 win.
The Bruin girls will be hosting the Rogue River Lady Chieftans Friday night at 5:30pm.
