Bruin Girls Sawyer Adams, Sets the Pace with a 3 Goal Hat-Trick Against Sutherlin

Bruin girls soccer, coming off a loss last Thursday to an undefeated St. Mary’s team took on the 9-1 Sutherlin Lady Bulldogs Thursday looking to find the win column again late in the season.

Freshman forward #12, Sawyer Adams, taking the shot, would set the pace for the Bruin girls with a hat-trick Thursday afternoon.

The Bruin girls wasted no time getting their offense in front of the Lady Bulldogs goal, putting an early shot on goal that would be pushed away by the Sutherlin’s keeper, but the rebound would fall to the hustling freshman forward #12, Sawyer Adams, who would put the ball in the net to give the Bruin girls an early 1-0 lead just 3:00 minutes into the game.

Senior defender, Lauren Pieper, #24, clearing the ball.
Freshman forward, Kaiya Evans, #23, would get the assist after a pass into the middle in the first half.

Sutherlin would counter quickly in an effort to stay with the Bruin girls, pushing the Bruin girls defense deep into their own territory, before forcing a Bruin girls foul at the top of the box. Sutherlin would take the awarded direct free kick and find the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1 just 5:00 minutes later.

Senior forward, #10, Amelia Bruce, breaking for the goal.

But the Bruin girls ball control offense they have been working on all year, would take control of the game at this point, chasing down loose balls, passing their way out of trouble and keeping the ball on the Sutherlin half of the field.

Sophomore Ellie Hanneman, #11, scoring the Bruin girls second goal of the afternoon.
Junior midfielder, Avery Hodge, 7, would get the assist setting up the second goal creating a fast break opportunity.

This would lead to another fast break opportunity just pass half field led by mid fielder Avery Hodge, #7, who would push a pass past the Lady Bulldogs offside trap that sophomore Ellie Hanneman, #11, would run down and score to give the Bruin girls the 2-1 lead half way through the first half.

Senior midfielder, Jaiden Babb, #9, starting the Bruin girls fast break.

Again the Bruin girls were done in the half, pushing the ball down the right sideline to freshman forward Kaiya Evans. #23, who would beat her defender to get the cross into the middle for freshman forward #12, Sawyer Adams who would bury the cross in the back of the net to give the Bruin girls the 3-1 lead at the half.

Junior defender, #8, Lexi Newman, breaking up the Sutherlin attack.

Play evened out in the second half as the Bruin girls offense spread the field and passed their way out of trouble and into offensive attacks that would be unsuccessful until late in the half. After working themselves into multiple scoring opportunities in the second half, a pass in front of the Sutherlin goal would again find Sawyer Adams, who would use her footwork to free herself a shot, putting the Bruin girls up 4-1 to end the game.

Freshman defender, Claire Pieper, #3, ending a Lady Bulldog scoring opportunity.

The Bruin girls will be home next Thursday, taking on the 6-3-2 Cascade Christian Lady Challengers with kick off slated for 4:00pm.
