Bruin Cross-Country Starts Season Hosting the Brookings Invite at Salmon Run

Here we go, the first official league results to start the 2024/25 high school sports season are in the books after head coach Jason Fulton and the Brookings-Harbor Bruins held the Brookings Invite at Salmon Run Wednesday, September 4th, at Salmon Run Golf Course.

Joseph Taylor took first place in the boys division, completing the course in 25:51.98 for the Pacific Pirates.
The Bruins Alexander Justman, finishing in 25:52.10, less than a second behind the leader to place second.

For now the third year in a row, head coach Jason Fulton and his cross-country program hosted Gold Beach Panther and Pacific Pirate runners Wednesday afternoon in their season opener under sunny skies and pleasant temperatures on the 5,000 meter course that meanders through trees and open spaces along the back nine holes of Salmon Run Golf Course.

Gold Beach’s Coco Plaep, finishing the course in 23:19.44, to take the win.
The Bruins Oceana Powers-Schmitz, finishing second for the Bruin girls in a time of 30:42.47.

Coach Fulton sent three girls to the starting line for Brookings, however, it would be Gold Beach’s Coco Plaep who dominate the field, finishing the course in 23:19.44, to take the win for the Panther girls.

Franky Abers, finishing in 30:27.50.
Reichen Wilson, finished the course with a time of 30:44.00

Four boys represented the Bruins in the boys division, which came down to less than a second after 5,000 meters, with the Pirates Joseph Taylor completing the course in 25:51.98, and the Bruins Alexander Justman finishing in 25:52.10, less than a second behind the Pirates Joseph Taylor, who would take the win for the Pirates, and the Bruins Alexander Justman placing second.

Eden Van Maren, finished in 32:05.36 for the Bruin girls.

The Bruin girls Sierra Stout, completing the course in 40:31.95.

“I’m very proud of the effort by the team and looking forward to their growth as the season goes on.” coach Fulton said after the meet. “I also would like to recognize freshman Jare Valesco-Ramos, a dual athlete working double duty.”
