On Thursday afternoon the BHHS boys varsity soccer team matched up with a stubborn and determined 3-3 Coquille/Myrtle Point team. The now 7-0 Bruins, on a mission to retain their perfect record applied vice like ball control defense from the whistle.
The Bruins compressed the field by pushing their defensive backs up to the center circle forcing the play into a 30 yard box in front of the Red Devil goal from the Coquille/Myrtle Point penalty box to the center half line.
Once the field was compressed the Bruins exploited their ball handling skills while pressuring the Red Devils to not mistakes trying to control the ball. Traps that weren’t at the Red Devil’s feet or passes that weren’t precise were attacked and controlled by the Bruins.
The Bruins would get on the scoreboard late in the first half after Bruin striker Jair Valdovinos #13 received a pass from Josh Serna #8 and buried in the net giving the Bruins 1-0 lead 30 minutes into the 1st half.
Rylan Bruce #5 and freshman Kallen Christensen #15 wasted no time applying even more pressure moments later after Bruce made the pass into the middle that Christensen would put behind the Red Devil Keeper putting the Bruins up 2-0 at the 35:00 minute mark.
Bruin midfielder Jake Beaman #17 fed Aden Carpenter #7 with just seconds left in the first half sending the Bruins into the half-time break up 3-0.
Valdovinos and Christensen both scored again in the second half as the Bruin defense and keeper Juan Hernandez recorded another clean sheet.
The Bruins are on the road next Tuesday to Gold Beach looking to take the season series against their northern local rival Panthers at 4:30pm.
