After finishing their 2021 9-0-1, head coach Jess Beaman and the BHHS boy varsity soccer team started their post season play-off schedule Monday, April 5th. The Bruins traveled to North Bend Monday, and started the 3A quarterfinals off taking on the 3-2 Central Linn Cobras.
On a sunny but cold windy Monday, the two teams took to the pitch to settle who will be moving on in the play-off bracket and the Bruins wasted no time jumping out to an early lead.
Josh Serna #18 started the scoring for the Bruins and Jake Beaman #17 received a throw in and used the wind to launch a 40 yard strike over the outstretched arms of the Cobra keeper. Rylan Bruce #5 and Fabian Villa #10 rounded out the scoring for the Bruins in the first half, giving the Bruins a 4-0 lead at the half.
All aspects of the Bruin game performed well, from the defense all but eliminating Cobra scoring opportunities, the mid-field broke down Central Linn build ups and then fed the forwards who racked up another 4 points in the second half.
Bryan Valdovinos #21, and Rylan Bruce #5 would both score in the second half as Josh Serna would put 2 more goals in the back of the net and finish the game with a hat-trick.
The Bruins continue their journey tonight, Wednesday, April 7th, traveling to Marshfield High School to take on the 8-3 overall Dayton Pirates. The Pirates will pose a challenge for the 10-0-1 overall Bruin team as the Pirates have scored 45 goals on the season, however, their defense has allowed 19 goals while the Bruins have put the ball behind the keeper 69 times throughout the season, and only allowed 3 goals all year.
The game kicks-off at 6:15 at Marshfield High school.
