After being on the road for their last 6 preseason match ups, head coach Kieth Wallin and Bruin boys baseball began league play at home Tuesday afternoon, hosting the Rogue River Chieftains at Bruin field, looking to pick up where they left off last year and start another run to the championship game.

Two well balanced teams took to the field late Tuesday afternoon with Wallin sending junior right hander, #7, Lincoln Rosenberg to the mound who held the Chieftains scoreless in the first.

Rosenberg then went on to keep Rogue River off the scoreboard in the second, setting up the Bruin offense to take a 2-0 lead after working runners into scoring position and getting them across the plate to take an early lead.

It wouldn’t be until the fourth inning that the Chieftains would load the bases and push three runs across the plate to take a 2-3 lead in the top half of the fourth. But the Bruins would use some trademark coach Wallin small ball to work a runner around the bases and across the plate to tie the score at 3-3 after four.

Freshman left hander Brody Bavaro, #27, would take over on the mound for the Bruins in the fourth inning and proceed to shut out the Chieftains through the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th innings.

After the Bruins left the winning run in scoring position in the bottom of the 7th, Bavaro would strike out the side in the top of the eighth and the Bruin offense would again use situational offense to move two runners into scoring position in extra innings before senior 2nd baseman Talan Pryor would get an infield hit to score the winning run and end the game.
The Bruin boys will be on the road this Friday, traveling to Rogue River for a double header with the first game pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.
