Head coach Keith Wallin and the 5-3 BHHS varsity boys took on the St. Mary’s Crusaders in a double header at home Tuesday afternoon, and the Bruin boys brought their bats.
Senior right-hander, Austin Dietrich, #13, took the mound for the Bruins to start the first game striking out the side and bringing the Bruins to the plate, where they would get seven runs across the plate to take an early 7-0 lead.
Dietrich would sit the Crusaders down in order again in the second, but the Bruins would not be as prolific at the plate, scoring only one run in the inning.
However, in the third, the Crusaders worked a runner across the plate getting on the scoreboard before the Bruin bats would put the game away, getting 13 runs across the plate on their way to taking game one, 24-1.
In the second game of the double-header, senior left-hander, Ethan Orman, #22, was handed to ball to start the game, and again St. Mary’s struggled with Bruin pitching, as the Bruins held the Crusaders scoreless in the first. The Bruin offense would pick up right where they left off in the first game.batting around the order in the bottom of the first for 11 runs.
Bruin pitching would keep St. Mary’s off the basepaths for most of the game, allowing only one Crusader runner across the plate while the Bruin bats added thirteen more runs in the later innings on their way to a second, 24-1 win after racking up 48 runs off of 40 hits combined in Tuesday afternoons double-header
The now 7-3 Bruins in league play, will be on the road this Saturday, traveling to Myrtle Creek to challenge the 7-1 South Umpqua Lancers coming off a four game win streak, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00pm.
