Head coach Luke Beaman and his 1-1 boys varsity basketball team, looking to stay in the win column, took on the Pacific Pirates in a non-league match up after the Pirates made the trip down the coast Wednesday evening.
The Bruin boys offense had a slow start to begin the game falling behind 4-8 early in the first period. The Bruin boys offense would tie the score at 8-8 before going on to take a 14-12 lead to end the first period, a lead they would not relinquish through out the game.
With a slim two point lead to start the second, the Bruin boys were relentless defensively, keeping the Pirates unsettled and struggling to get their offensive scheme in order, and the Bruin boys would take advantage building a 20-13 lead midway through the second and then extending their lead to nine points at the halftime break.
In the third period, Pirate adjustments included a tougher more physical defense in an effort to frustrate the Bruin boys and lure the Bruin boys into foul trouble, and would close the gap to four points half way through the third. However, the Bruin boys would work through the Pirate adjustment, hitting for eight points in the period to take a 5 point 35-30 lead into the fourth period.
The Pirates continued their efforts to get the Bruins into foul trouble to open up the paint, and again Pacific would hit their shots, hitting for eight points four minutes into the fourth. However, the Bruin boys were not deterred, staying focused on their own scoring and running on the Pirates to take ten a point lead midway through the fourth period, before running away from a frustrated Pirate team to extend their lead to fifteen and take the 57-42 win.
The Bruin boys are traveling to Rogue River High School to take on the 1-2 Honkers who will make the trip from Lakeview Friday evening for the 7:30 tip-off.
