Head coach Brandon Hodges and the BHHS boys varsity basketball team closed out their 2021 season on the road making the trip to Myrtle Creek to take on the South Umpqua Lancers.
The Bruins started the 1st period with strong defense that allowed only two Lancer shooters to score in the period. Senior Harold Soule #23 led the way for the Bruins in the 1st, hitting for 5 points off of a 3 pointer and a basket as the Bruins put four players in the scorebook. Junior Jake Beaman #1 had 3 points off a basket and a free throw, senior Oggie Badger #25 hit two baskets and sophomore Kallen Christensen hit a 3 pointer as the Bruins jumped to a 15-12 lead after the first period.
Sutherlin turned the tables in the 2nd period getting five players on the scoreboard hitting baskets inside and outside while piling up 14 points on the Bruin defense.
Sophomore Kallen Christensen #12 led the Bruin offense in the 2nd hitting for 5 points including a 3 pointer and Badger and Beaman both scored, but the Lancer defense allowed only 9 points in the period and went into the half time break leading 24-26.
Senior Oggie Badger #25 came alive in the 3rd period for the Bruin offense, beating the Lancer defense down low for 10 points in the period. The Bruins only had three players in the scoring column in the 3rd, sophomore point guard Josh Serna #42 scored and Jake Beaman #1 hit 3 baskets as the Bruins established a 42-31 lead going into the final period.
The Bruin defense continued to stifle the Lancers, allowing only two baskets in the period for the Sutherlin offense. Six Bruins scored in the final period as Beaman, sophomore Jeremy Green #20, Oggie Badger, and Serna all scored, as seniors Joe Gollaher #2 and Harold Soule finished their season dropping 3 pointers as the Bruins went on to finish the 2021 season in the win column 55-39.
