Coach Wallin and his 9-1 Bruin varsity baseball team took the diamond Wednesday in their first league game of the season. The 4-3 Douglas Trojans made the trip to the Bruins home field and walked into a Bruin buzz saw.
Sophomore pitcher Andrew Burger took the mound and held the Trojans scoreless until the 4th inning, helping the Bruins jump out in front of Douglas early.
The Bruin offense put themselves in the scorebox in the 2nd, putting 3 base runners across the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning.
Bruin pitcher Andrew Burger had a shutdown inning in the top of the 3rd striking out the side in order as Douglas struggled to find the answer Burger’s pitching.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Bruin hitting pounded the Trojan pitcher led by sophomore catcher Jacub McCollum #20, senior first baseman Brig Schofield, sophomore second baseman Adam Shew #13, senior Roman Worthey #11, and senior outfielder Jon Kleespies #28, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs and putting 8 more points up in the inning.
The Bruin defense did not commit any errors in the game, however, it was the Bruin offense that was the star of the day tallying ten hits. Jason DeShon and Adam Shew each collected multiple hits as DeShon went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bruins in hits.
The Bruins will face these same Douglas Trojans this Friday at Douglas in a doubleheader at 3:00 pm and again at 5:00 pm.
