In a Thursday afternoon, May 12th message through social media, the Brookings Police department warned of a local increase in what has become a deadly serious threat, fake pills and other forms of fentanyl in the Brookings-Harbor area.
The report states that the department has taken “heroin” off the streets locally which is known by the users and law enforcement to actually be fentanyl. Fake pills including “zanie” (xanax) bars were seized this past week as well as Lab-confirmed fentanyl posing as heroin that can take pill form as “hydro”codone/percocet/”oxy”codone/”oxy”contin. There are also more reports of carfentanyl, (100 times more potent than fentanyl), in California.
According to the report, there has been a sharp increase in naloxone use for overdose in the past months and even overdose deaths this past year.
“Please, talk to your kids.” the report reads, “Too many will experiment with pills from friends and more often now, the pills are not what they expect.”
