The Curry County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and requested by the Brookings Police Department the assistance from the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue rope team Saturday July 17th, at the end of Tanbark Lane in Brookings.
The Search and Rescue team as well the Brookings Police Department, Brookings Fire Department and Cal Ore Life Flight responded to reports regarding a seventy-three-year-old gentleman who had fallen over the side of a cliff and was unresponsive at the end of Tanbark Lane in Brookings. Brookings Police, Brookings Fire Department and Cal Ore Life Flight were paged and were on scene.
Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with Search and Rescue and prior to their arrival, Brookings Fire Department were able to secure a rope system and anchor points while other first responders tried to hike up from below.
Unable to reach the person from below, two Search and Rescue members rappelled about thirty feet down to the victim and determined that seventy-three-year-old Brookings’s resident, Jerry Haddock, was deceased. Haddock was secured and then raised back to the top of the steep bank.
