Brookings Man Arrested After Car Chase

On Sunday, March 15, just before 3:30 pm, a Josephine County Sheriff’s Deputy was traveling west on Fish Hatchery Road when he observed a blue 2008 Volkswagen Passat traveling faster than the posted speed limit.

The Deputy attempted to catch the vehicle which was occupied by two males and initiate a traffic stop at the intersection of Fish Hatchery Road and Genverna Glen in Josephine County. The driver of the vehicle ignored the attempt and increased the vehicle speed attempting to flee the Deputy. The driver of the vehicle made several attempts to evade the police by passing multiple cars and driving in the opposing lanes in the Fish Hatchery, New Hope area of the county.

While traveling on New Hope Road the driver of the vehicle turned into an address in the 5000 block and attempted to flee on foot into the woods. The passenger of the vehicle was immediately taken into custody as other Deputy’s gave chase to the driver who was described as a male subject wearing a white tee-shirt and black jeans.

The male suspect was observed jumping a fence and traveling through multiple properties on Detrick Drive. The male suspect was located by Sheriff’s Deputy’s hiding in a garage on Detrick Drive and taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was identified as 46-year-old Robert Eugene Snyder, of Brookings Oregon. Inside the vehicle, officers located 202.4 Grams of Heroin, 4.3 Grams Methamphetamine, a 9MM Semi-auto Pistol (serial number removed), $1,411.00 Cash, 2-Scales, and 2- Glass pipes with residue.

Snyder was taken into custody and transported to the Josephine County Jail on multiple charges.
