Brookings Hit and Run Suspect Arrested

On Tuesday, June 5th, the Brookings Police Department received a report of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle on Hwy 101 near the Blue Coast Inn. The suspect vehicle was reported to have continued driving north on Hwy 101 without stopping.

The Brookings Police Department, Brookings Fire Department, and Cal-Ore Ambulance all responded to the scene.

The male victim sustained severe trauma to both of his legs and his head. Witnesses in the area stated he was crossing Hwy 101 from the ocean side to the area near Blue Coast Inn when he was hit in a northbound lane. Witnesses were able to provide a description of the vehicle that was then confirmed by debris as well as nearby video evidence. The male victim was transported by Cal-Ore Ambulance to the Brookings airport where he was flown to an out-of-area hospital by Cal-Ore/REACH.

The pickup is believed to be a burnt orange 2014-2017 Toyota Tundra extended cab pickup with a matching canopy and possibly a dark-colored rack on top of the canopy that extends over the cab of the pickup. There is likely to be damage to the driver’s side of the pickup. Below is a screenshot of a video taken of the suspect vehicle.

As of Wednesday, June 6th, the Brookings Police Department in conjunction with the Gold Beach Police Department identified the suspect vehicle associated with the Hit & Run Felony, at a residence in Gold Beach.

The Damage to the burnt orange 2016 Toyota Tundra extended cab pickup was consistent with both the debris evidence and having recently hit something on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The male owner, identified as Dustin Davidson, recently of Gold Beach, was arrested for Fail to Perform Duties of a Driver, Felony. Additional charges are pending.

Missing from the vehicle was the burnt orange canopy as well as the dark-colored rack on top of the canopy that extended over the cab of the pickup. Evidence of both having recently been removed was found. Any information regarding the whereabouts of either of these will aid in the investigation.
