On Wednesday, March 16th, coach Jason Fulton, and the Brookings-Harbor High School track team hosted the annual, season opening, Brookings-Harbor Ice-Breaker Track meet.
Under clear skies and perfect conditions with comfortable temperatures, seven schools participated including Hidden Valley, Gold Beach, Pacific, Myrtle Point, Powers and Del Norte High Schools.
Skylar Gallagher handing off to Megan Pearson in the 4×100 relay. The team of Jaiden Babb, Skylar Gallagher, Megan Pearson and Spensyr Gotfried would go on to take 2nd place, while the team of Michaela Stutchman, Kenzie Wentz, Eden Van Maren and Megan Pearson took 2nd in the 4×400 relay.
The Bruins showed their strengths placing first in five events with the Bruin girls finishing first in three events, on their way to the boys placing 2nd in the meet with 136 total points, and the Girls also taking second overall with 132 total team points.
Tanner Nelson-Anderson passing the baton to Jake Beaman in the 4×100 relay. The team of Uriel Cortez, Tanner Anderson-Nelson, Jake Beaman and Miguel Ramos would go on to take 1st place in both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
Sarah Fulton on her way to winning the girls Discus with a personal best throw of 73′-2″. Fulton would also set a school record in the shot put, placing 5th with a throw of 22′-2″.
Luke Christensen finished 10th for the boys in Discus, behind Seamus Tayman who threw a personal best 93′-1″ for 3rd place, and Zoelyn Collins who finished 4th with a personal best throw of 85′-2″.

Uriel Cortez charging out the blocks on his way to a school record time of 12:66 and a 7th place finish in the 100m. Cortez also ran the lead leg in both the 4X100 and 4×400 1st place finishes for the Bruin boys.
Skylar Gallagher finished in 2nd place in the Triple Jump with a school record 27′-1″. She also took 2nd place in a total four events Wednesday for the Bruin girls including a school record 14′-5″ in the Long Jump, a personal record 4′-4″ High Jump finish as well as running the second leg of the girls 2nd place finish in the 4×100 relay.
Jake Beaman clearing a personal best 5′-6″ in the High Jump to finish 3rd. Beaman also ran the third leg of the boys 4x100m relay and 4x400m relays, and finished the boys 400m in a school record 58:18 for 4th place.
Miguel Ramos finishing the boys 400m in a school record time of 53:58, also ran the final leg of the 4×100 relay in a dramatic come from behind victory, as well as the 4×400 relay and also finished 2nd in the 200m with a personal record time of 23:86.
Megan Pearson (center), on her way to a 1st place finish in the 100m hurdles in a school record time of 18:21. She also placed 6th in the long jump clearing 12′-3″, as well as finishing 2nd running the third leg of the 4×100 relay and 4×400 relays.
Kyan Myers (center), finishing first in the 110m hurdles with a personal best time of 18:83. He also placed 1st in the 300m hurdles with a school record 48:94, as well as setting personal bests in the Triple Jump finishing 2nd and finishing 7th in the long jump. Freshman Devan Downing (left), finished in 4th place, in a personal record time of 20:68.
Spencyr Gotfried clearing a personal record 8′-0″ in the girls pole vault on her way to finishing in 1st place. Gotfried also finished 2nd in the 100m and ran the final leg of the 2nd place girls 4×100 relay team.
Colby Anderson-Nelson set school records in the 1500m and 3000m events, finishing 4th in the 1500m with a time of 5:47:40 and finishing 3rd in the 3000m in a time of 13:16:34.
“We are very proud of the entire team,” coach Fulton said after the meet. “They have been working very hard and the coaching staff and myself saw many positives from so many athletes. It was great to see kids out having fun again. Thank you to all the folks who helped make the meet run smoothly. We are headed Mckinleyville this weekend to compete in the Panther Relays.”
