On Saturday the Brookings-Harbor Babe Ruth team hosted the Marshfield Pirates for a cool, breezy day of baseball.
After allowing the first batter on with a single, the Brookings-Harbor pitcher settled down retiring the next three batters he faced. Both teams started the game off similarly as Brookings-Harbor got their first batter on base only to have the Marshfield pitcher retire the next three batters he faced also, starting the second scoreless
The top of the second was a little different as Marshfield worked 7 batters to the plate and scoring three times. In the Brookings-Harbor half of the inning, Brookings-Harbor made Marshfield pay for a walk and a single by being aggressive on the basepaths scoring twice going into the third inning 2-3 Marshfield.
Marshfield put two runners on the basepaths in the top of the third before Brookings-Harbor had a pitching change striking out the next two batters ending the Pirate threat. Brookings-Harbor then loaded the bases in their half of the third on two walks and a single scoring once.
In the fourth inning, Marshfield pulled away again sending seven batters to the plate and putting together two singles and two doubles scoring three times extending their lead to 3-7 Pirates. But Brookings-Harbor started off the bottom of the fourth with a double and single crossing the plate once making the score 4-7.
The Bruins started the top of the fifth with a pitching change, holding the Pirates to just a single, striking out two and popping up another to hold Marshfield scoreless.
Brookings-Harbor loaded the bases in their half of the fifth off of two hits and a walk only to have the Marshfield pitcher strike the next two batters he faced and a Bruin runner was thrown out attempting to steal home.
Each team would manage to score one more time in the later innings giving Marshfield the 8-4 win.
Brookings-Harbor had seven hits in the game committing no errors and had five players combine to steal 11 bases.
