Brookings Bruins Travel Team Takes 3 of 4

Coach Beaman said the boys played hard and worked really well together and that he looks forward to watching them play together in the future.

Over the past weekend, the Brookings Bruins 8th grade travel basketball team participated in the State Middle School Championships.

Starting their tournament weekend Friday night, the Brookings Bruins defeated Scappoose by just three points. Fabian Villa #15 led all scorers with 20 points in the contest.

As they continued in “Pool Play” and the Brookings Bruins met up with Lake Oswego at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds and Expo Center.

Again the Brookings Bruins would narrowly take the win against the Lake Oswego Lakers 77-71. Jake Beaman led scoring in the win dropping 24 points as Brad Russell scored 13 points in the game.

After finishing first in the “Pool Play” round, the Brookings Bruins met the Cheesemakers from Tillamook and came away with a three-point win moving them on to a big Marshfield team. Fabian Villa #15 had twenty points in the game, Jake Beaman hit six 3 pointers and a free throw for 19 points and Noah Molnar #33 had 6 points as the Brookings Bruins fell to Marshfield.

Marshfield would go on to defeat Clackamas and Woodburn on their way to the State Middle School Championships.
