Breakthrough cases rose to their highest percentage of cases since the Oregon Health Authority began keeping track nine weeks ago. In that nine week period, 99,801 Oregonians tested positive for COVID-19, however, in that same nine week period, there have been 22,879 vaccine breakthrough cases identified in Oregon, totaling 23% off all cases.
In Curry County, 90 of the counties 1,686 total cases have been identified as being a ‘breakthrough’ case. Vaccine breakthrough cases are defined as instances in which an individual received a positive COVID-19 test result at least 14 days following the completion of any COVID-19 vaccine series.
Vaccination rates for the state remained slow again in the past week as the state sat at 74.1% vaccinated last week, and to date, now sits at 74.7%, an increase of .6% in the past week. Oregon Health Authority and the Center for Disease Control assured individuals that the fully vaccinated are well protected from COVID, including the delta variant.
The Delta variant also increased by 657 cases since last week, rising to 4,493 total individuals in the entire state, infected with the Delta variant.
As of Friday, September 24th, the state of Oregon had tested 6,832,220 individuals, an increase of 156,027 individuals and now over 2,542,780 more people than the states 4,289,440 population. 6,389,184 have tested negative for the novel COVID-19 virus and 443,036 have tested positive. Oregon has recorded 4,736 fewer new cases in the past week with 11,149 new cases, and 309,841 total cases.
Individuals hospitalized rose by 585 hospitalizations statewide in the past week, and now stands at 17,429. In the past week 113 deaths were recorded statewide, and Oregonians who have unfortunately succumbed to COVID-19 has now reached 3,682 individuals throughout the entire state since the pandemic began.
Curry County’s latest numbers as reported Friday, September 24th, by the Oregon Health Authority, now reports testing 20,866 individuals with 19,184 negative tests, 1,682 total positive COVID-19 tests, and the latest data from the Oregon Health Authority and has recorded 1,686 total cases and 17 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported adding 126 new cases in the past week, 26 fewer than the previous week and now reaching 3,413 total confirmed cases reported by Public Health, after testing 18,723 individuals with 15,184 negative results, with 131 active cases, 12 current hospitalizations and 36 deaths.
Coos County to the north, reported testing 74,105 individuals last week with 69,179 negative results, adding 13 new cases in the past week with now 4,362 total positive cases and 72 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Josephine County has seen significant increases in recent weeks and has reported testing 131,419 individuals with 119,235 negative results, 12,184 total positive test results with now 8,772 total cases of COVID-19 and now 173 deaths.
Jackson County, which includes the Medford area, with a total population of 221,290, reports testing 355,440 individuals, 134,150 more people than the counties total population, with 324,081 negative test results, 31,359 positive results, and 21,336 total cases of COVID-19 with now 267 deaths as of Friday, September 24th.
