Both the varsity boys and girls varsity basketball teams will battle tonight at the Bruins Arena for first place in 4A-3 Far West League play.
The Lady Bruins who are sitting on a perfect record of 4-0 will take on an equally successful Marshfield team who will travel to Brookings today to defend a perfect 4-0 record of their own.
Even though both teams are undefeated going into this match-up, The #17 OSAA ranked Lady Bruins will play the of underdog Friday night since the Marshfield Lady Pirates will walk onto the hardwood with a #1 OSAA ranking and an overall 16-2 record.
The Lady Bruins will have momentum and home floor advantage going into the contest and a confident Coach Schofield said after last weeks game that “the girls keep getting better, but we will have to handle the pressure and be better defensively”.
The 3-1 varsity boys will walk on to the hardwood with #17 OSAA ranking coming off a Tuesday night win in North Bend. The Marshfield Pirates travel into town an undefeated 4-0 in 4A-3 Far West League play and ranked #4 in OSAA. Marshfield puts a mature team of all juniors and seniors on the floor with a 6’7″ junior center and only 2 of their players under 6’ft.
When asked last week about today’s match-up, Coach Gonzales said his team “had too many empty possessions…and on Friday we need to be better on both ends”. After two overtime thrillers already this season, the Bruins have played well all season beating teams better and taller than themselves already this season and will need to turn the intensity knob up a couple clicks tonight.
If you like good basketball, are a Bruin alumni or both, let’s fill Bruins Arena tonight and give our teams the support of the loud crowd they deserve and help push them into first place.
The Lady Bruins will start the show at 6:00 pm and the boy’s varsity Bruins will take the floor at 7:30. BE THERE and BE LOUD!
