Bomb Squad called to Cave Junction

On Friday, March 9th, an employee from the Senior Thrift Store located at 102 South Redwood Highway, in Cave Junction called 911 to report finding an M60 Military Mortar in a box of household items donated by an unknown person.

Deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office responded and evacuated the building and the surrounding area. After confirming the description of the mortar and its location within the building, the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad was contacted and responded to the scene.

The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad removed the mortar from the building and determined the object was, in fact, a military training round. It was also determined the mortar was inert and posed no danger.
