Rural Metro Fire, Grants Pass Fire, the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon State Police responded to a semi truck fire on northbound Interstate 5 north of Grants Pass.
When
first responders arrived on scene, the cab was fully involved and fire
had already spread to the front of the trailer. The driver escaped
without injury. The truck was carrying produce, and contents that had
not burned were damaged by smoke. Cause of the fire appeared to be
mechanical.
The fire was quickly controlled and there was no spread to the adjacent hillside. Traffic was backed up during the suppression efforts, but the freeway northbound has since reopened.
