Saturday was the big day for Corcoran and Cortado!!
Volunteers from the Northcoast Marine Mammal Center took California Sea Lions Corcoran and Cortado down to Cape Mendocino on Saturday, where they were released back to their ocean home.
This was an all-day trip and we are very grateful to all of the volunteers who helped make it possible!
The Northcoast Marine Mammal Center rescues and rehabilitates sick and injured marine mammals so they can be released back into the wild. Their mission is to educate the public about the impact humans have on marine mammals and the importance of preserving the oceans where they live.
In an average year, the Northcoast Marine Mammal Center rescues between 40 and 80 marine mammals and has rescued almost 1,200 animals since it began in 1988. All the rescue, medical care, and rehabilitation is done by an entirely volunteer team which includes the veterinary staff.
Located in Crescent City California, the Northcoast Marine Mammal Center is a small, non-profit organization that rescues stranded marine mammals (mostly seals and sea lions) in Northern California. Volunteers provide the bulk of animal care and also work in our gift shop.
If you are interested in helping, with a $10 donation, the program “Meals for Seals” can feed one of our animals for a day!
