The school sports program that will “go first” and start the 2021 High School sports season, is ladies volleyball, and the Wild Coast Compass talked with Brookings-Harbor High School varsity Lady Bruin volleyball team head coach Lorinda Shew to get her thoughts on working through COVID procedures to put a competitive Lady Bruin team on the floor Tuesday.
“We have a team with experience this year.” she told the Compass. “Earlier we started with open gyms, and our 3 returning seniors Shelby Jirsa, Sierra Fitzhugh, and Gracie Harms eagerly got right to work leading our 4 returning juniors, brought a lot of energy, and the girls have been extremely cooperative and patient with the COVID protocols.”
“As we start the season Tuesday evening, we do so with some uncertainty like everyone this season, we have been working hard and are hoping to keep everyone healthy, happy and doing what they love- competing.” she told the Compass.
“We are grateful for Athletic Director Jean Shearer who’s tireless hard work keeping up with the ever-changing scheduling and guidance gives us confidence and optimism that we will get a good number of games in. We are all excited for whatever challenges are coming our way and plan to break through this year!”
