Spring sports programs are well under way this 2022 season, and another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.
This weeks selection is a four year two sport varsity athlete participating on both the BHHS girls soccer program as well as the Bruin girls varsity softball team. Senior, Hannah James, #5, has been selected by head coach Tony Baron from the Bruin girls varsity softball team for her leadership and determination at the shortstop position for the Bruins this season.
“She came into this season on a mission” coach Baron said, and her numbers in almost every statistical category show the work. Coach Baron has James not only at the shortstop position defensively, but also has her at the top of the batting order in the lead-off position. Setting the tone for the Bruin girls offense leading off at the plate, James has crossed the plate 15 times, while hitting .375, with 1 home-run, 5 stolen bases and 11 RBI in only 7 games since the regular season began.
Off the field, Hannah carries a 3.8 gpa scholastically, while also working a part time job. She volunteers time for local charity events, and plans on working over the summer before taking classes here locally at SWOCC.
“If I had to come up with one word to describe Hannah” coach Baron said, “it would be leadership. She came into this year on a mission, to play her best, and lead this team to win.., and she has done just that.” he said.
Congratulations Hannah, we are confident that you will continue to be successful in any endeavor you should choose to pursue.
