Now in her second year as head coach for the Brookings-Harbor girls varsity volleyball team, and getting ready for their first league game of the season, we asked coach Vanessa Nidiffer to share what she took away from her first season as head coach, what kind of team is shaping up for the 2022 season, and what are the teams goals as the season gets started.
“Last year I was pleased how well we jelled as a team and overcame adversity during the season.” she said. “This year will be one of growth for us as we graduated 5 starting seniors last year.”
“Our two current seniors, Cam Crosby and Ashlyn Schofield both have tons of varsity experience and they are great leaders on our team. As our 5-1 setter, Cam is in control of every ball and she’s incredibly reliable. Ashlyn is our go-to hitter and she is a very smart player out there on the court. The team has good chemistry together.”
“This team is looking to make it to the playoffs this year in the league. We’ll need to greatly improve our passing and defense in order to accomplish that goal and we’ve been working on that a lot in practice. It’s tough to compete with some of the valley teams that play club and volleyball all year, but with a strong work ethic, I think we can rise to the challenge.”
The Bruin girls will be hosting the Douglas Lady Trojans TONIGHT, Thursday, September 15th, at 6:00pm, in their first league home game of the season.
We appreciate the community support and hope to see you at the game.
