BHHS Varsity Football Coach Talks about Growing from a Slow Start

Coming into the 2021 prep football season, BHHS varsity head football coach Shaun Bavaro and his staff, had high hopes with kids in new positions and running new schemes.

But the season has had its difficulties, and so have the Bruins, who have showed that the new changes are working, however, putting together a complete game has proven to be elusive so far.

“The kids continue to push through”, coach Bavaro told the Compass, “and we’ve been seeing small glimpses of improvement.”

“The Injury bug has bit us a bit, and with that Some of our younger kids have stepped up and have been working very hard.”

“We match up with St. Mary’s on Friday. Our hands will be full with them. They may have a smaller roster in terms of numbers, then most years, but they are very talented in all spots. It Should be an exciting match-up for us. If we play 4 quarters and limit the mistakes, we will be right there.”

“Our defense has done a nice job so far. They continue to be very sound in their alignment and we continue to work on technique. ”

“Our goal on offense is to finish the drive with points, no mistakes. We have moved the ball on our last two opponents, but haven’t come away with any points.”

“A bad snap, or costly penalty has really put us behind the chains on most of our drives this year.”

“Overall, our young kids are slowly progressing, which is exciting to see for our program going forward.”
