The Glide Wildcats were the next on the long list of victims to come across the buzz saw that is the Brookings-Harbor Bruin varsity boys soccer team. The 5-5 Wildcats took on the undefeated Bruins Tuesday afternoon on a picture perfect day for soccer that also happened to be ‘Senior Day’ for the Bruins.
Just 2:30 into the contest, junior Jair Valdovinos #7 found freshman Fabian Villa #21 open in front of the goal and started the scoring onslaught. The Bruins again pressured the Wildcats in their own half of the field denying Glide the ability to control the ball long enough to mount any offense.
Thirteen Bruins found the back of the net Tuesday afternoon. Senior Luke Beaman #13 led all scorers with 5 goals and 1 assist, followed by junior Jair Valdovinos #7 who recorded the ‘hat trick’ with 3 goals of his own. Freshman forward Fabian Villa #21 put 2 goals behind the keeper and sophomore Rylan Bruce #5, senior Nathaniel Barnard #11, and freshman Jake Beaman #2 also added to the scoring with 1 goal each.
The overpowering Bruins have put the ball behind the keeper a total of 105 times in league play this season in 11 games averaging 9.5 goals per game. On the defensive side, the Bruins have been scored on remarkably just 1 time in the same 11 game stretch on the season, an astonishing accomplishment in and of itself.
After patiently waiting ALL SEASON for an action shot of Bruin keeper Juan Hernandez, I was caught off guard after a spectacular late 2nd half save. My apologies.
