As the pre-season comes to an end for most High School sports teams, the Wild Coast Compass has not really covered the Bruin boys varsity soccer team, mainly because virtually all of their pre-season activity has been on the road, away from their home-field.
Last Thursday, September 6th, the boys opened their seasaon league play against Coquille / Myrtle Point on the road before their last non-league game Saturday agains Mazama in Klamath Falls.
In their season opener against Coquille / Myrtle Point last Thursday, Brookings-Harbor traveled to Myrtle Point for scheduled 5:00pm game time.
Brookings-Harbor wasted no time taking control of the game as they scored 7 points in the first half. 2 goals from Luke Beaman, Roman Worthey, were followed up by Austin Fronckowiak, Jair Valdovinos, and Fabian Villa each scoring a goal before the half time whistle.
The Bruins did not let up in the second half as they added 6 more goals to the tally while playing tough defense and not allowing Coquille / Myrtle Point to get into the scoring column.
On Saturday, September 8th, the Bruins traveled to Klamath Falls for a non-league match up with Mazama at 1:00pm early Saturday afternoon.
In much different game situation, the Bruins faced a much more organized and skilled opponent. Brookings-Harbor started the scoring as Roman Worthey found the back of the net for the only goal in the first half of play.
However, Mazama tightened up the defense in the second half holding the Bruins scoreless while scoring twice in the second half sending the Bruins on a long ride home with a 2-0 loss.
The Bruins boys varsity soccer team plays its second league game at home today, Tuesday, September 11th at 4:00pm as Umpqua Valley Christian / Melrose Christian come into town from the Roseburg area.
