The Brookings-Harbor Bruins traveled to Douglas Thursday afternoon, and after being challenged in Tuesday’s match against Marshfield, the Bruins again were tested by the Trojans.
In a game that could be characterized as “physical”, the Bruins faced their toughest test yet in league play. The Bruins would start the scoring with #4 Izaiha Bruce finding the back of the net, followed by a penalty kick score by #13 Luke Beaman. The Bruins would take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Douglas Trojans came out of the break with a much more aggressive game plan in the second half, in an attempt to get the Bruins short passing ball control offense out of its game.
The disruptive game plan would work to the Trojans advantage as Douglas would score early in the second half making the score 2-1 Bruins. A frustrated Bruins team dealing with late challenges and tackles would be penalized themselves in the second half and the Trojans would be rewarded with a penalty kick equalizing the score at 2-0 about midway through second-half play.
However, just as the Marshfield Pirates learned in Tuesday’s match, the Bruins resolve would take over the game from that point forward. Approximately thirty minutes into the second half, midfielder Jair Valdovinos #7 would feed #4 Izaiha Bruce who would again get the ball behind the Trojan keeper giving the lead back to the Bruins 3-2.
Izaiha Bruce would score again in the second half finishing a stellar performance with 3 goal hat-trick on the day, carrying the varsity boys to a 4-2 victory and preserving their undefeated season.
The Brookings-Harbor varsity boys will take their winning streak back on the road next week and meet the Coquille / Myrtle Point Red Devils next Tuesday.
