BHHS Track No Stranger to the Podium Saturday

Juniors Sarah Fulton and Maleaha Harlan finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Javelin.

The Brookings-Harbor High School boys and girls track team and their head coach Jason Fulton traveled to Medford to participate in the 22nd Annual Crusader Relays at St. Mary’s.

On a warm sunny Saturday morning, field events started the day with excellent performances and personal records.

Junior Maleah Harlan placed 3rd in the javelin.

In the girls javelin, Sarah Fulton threw 66′-9″ and Maleah Harlan 57′-9″ both setting personal records and taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. Sarah Fulton went on to finish 3rd in the shot-put with a throw of 22′-3″, and then went on to place 3rd in the discus hurling it 72′-5″. Shylar Gallagher just missed the podium in the long jump, reaching 13′-1.5″.

For the varsity boys, the hits just kept coming. Miguel Ramos jumped a personal best in the long jump after out jumping the competition by almost a foot after jumping 19′-4″.

Derek Tuttle stood on the podium after taking 3rd with a personal best 35′-6″ shot-put, and then followed that up by standing on the top of the podium after taking first place with a personal best 162′-3″ javelin throw, more than 76′ further than the second place finisher.

Junior Cody Lee took 1st place clearing 11′.

In the pole-vault, Brookings Cody Lee vaulted himself to a 1st place finish clearing 11′. Jake Beaman and Derek Tuttle both tied in the high jump tied for second with jumps clearing 5′-2″.  

Sophomore Seamus Tayman placed 5th for the Bruins in the discus with a throw of 82′-2″.

In the relays Bradly Conduraki, Cody Lee, Seth Broberg, and Jake Beaman placed 3rd in the 4×100 relay in 49:24, and then Bradly Conduraki, Cody Lee, Seth Broberg and Gavin Conduraki took 1st in the 4×200 relay. Miguel Ramos, Gavin Conduraki, Ty Morris and Jake Beaman place 3rd in the 4×400 relay finishing in 4:18:59.

“It was a great day for competing.” coach Fulton told the Compass after the meet. “The kids really worked hard and their attitudes and efforts were outstanding”. “The coaching staff is really pleased with what happened, and we now have a baseline at what each athlete needs to do to improve.”   Coach Fulton and the BHHS track teams will travel to Pleasant Hill next Wednesday, April 28th to participate in the MVC meet.
