The latest entry in the Brookings Les Schwab ‘Star Student Athlete’ is Evan Fronckowiak, starting point guard for Head Coach Jess Beaman’s BHHS varsity basketball team.
Playing on the varsity team for 2 years, Evan became an intricate part of Coach Beaman’s new program after Head Coach Gonzalez left after the 2018 season. Talking with Head Coach Jess Beaman, he said “Evan was one of the hardest workers on the team and led by example putting in the extra time.”
As the team point guard and primary ball handler, Fronckowiak was responsible for starting the Bruin offense which also included using his speed to break down defenses designed to slow the Bruin fast break.
Fronckowiak was efficient from the outside with his ability to hit and establish the 3 pointer. This forced defenses to guard him away from the hoop, which would inevitably open up a lane to the basket.
Being the playmaker Evan averaged 3 assists per game which came primarily from drawing defenses and dishing under the hoop. Defensively Fronckowiak took advantage of his quickness and averaged 2.5 steals per game.
But it was at the offensive end of the court that Evan excelled. He averaged 17.5 points per game fearlessly driving the lane and sinking 3 pointers on his way to a 27 point game against St. Mary’s.
“Evan was very dedicated to the game, always working hard and striving to be the very best” said Coach Beaman. Congratulations Evan, and good luck in all your future endeavors.
