The start of the spring sports programs are now in full swing, another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.
This weeks selection, chosen by Brookings-Harbor High School Music Director, Corey Tamondong, is Colton Hill, who has been a member of the BHHS Music Department in just about every capacity.
As a member of the many different aspects of the Brookings-Harbor High School Music department, this weeks selection is another great example representing the attributes of the ‘Star Student Athlete’ program and was chosen by Music Director, Corey Tamondong for his prolific ability to perform in nearly every ensemble at BHHS including Bruin Band, Jazz Band, Sea Breeze, and Concert Choir as well as being the drum major where he co-leads the band with the music director and other student leaders.
Colton has also been a junior firefighter for Brookings Fire and Rescue since August of 2021 and is now has earned the rank of firefighter after turning 18 years old earlier this year. He is also President of the BHHS Angling Club, and is heavily involved in the ‘Slamin Salmon Derby as well as beach clean ups and fishing days.
As a senior, Colton is maintaining a cumulative 3.9 GPA while balancing his many roles while carrying multiple college level classes such as in courses such as Body Structure & Functions Science, Economics, Jazz Band, College Literature & Composition, Sea Breeze, and Bruin Band.
Colton intends to continue his musical aspirations after he graduates planning to attend Oregon State University majoring in music education.
