BHHS Head Soccer Coach Jess Beaman Talkin’ Soccer

This is my 3rd year as the Bruin Varsity Soccer Coach. Having coached most of these kids since they were very young, I understand their personalities, strengths and weaknesses. They are awesome kids who work very hard in school and on the field.

My first year, we were in 4A and were very competitive there. Now in our second year in the 3A Special District 4, we are dominating the league. That is good and bad. It is great to win, but we need some competition to compete in playoffs. In the first nine games in this 2019 season, we have averaged 7 goals a game scoring 67 goals while only allowing 2 goals against us.

It has been a challenge in this league so far because we have had to weigh sportsmanship against scoring too many goals or purposely scoring fewer goals. Our athletic department is working on some changes to our schedule next year, and we welcome it because the more competitive games will help us to improve and they are more entertaining to watch.

We lost 8 seniors from last year, so I am working on filling the spots with much younger players. I have been moving them around a lot, trying to figure out what works. We have had a lot of opportunity in the games to work on set plays and tactics, and we hope to be ready when it come to playoffs. Because of our record and high ranking, we are looking forward to home playoff games.

We would like to thank the Brookings Harbor Booster Club for their donation of the covers for our benches. These will be awesome for both teams when we have our coastal rainy games.

We would also like to thank the fans and to invite others to come out and cheer on the team.

Go Bruins!
