As student athletes and school sports programs begin to transition to winter sports programs this 2022/23 season, another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.
This weeks selection is a three year varsity athlete participating in the BHHS girls soccer program, junior, Sophia Bauer, #1, selected by head coach Brian Carlson for her leadership, competitiveness and her determination at the forward position for the Bruins this season.
“This is Sophia’s first year as an Attacking Midfielder. Selected as captain by her teammates, she has continued all season to grow into the position. She likes to take players on and attack from the outside, looking for opportunities to shoot or cross to teammates.” coach Carlson said.
Scholastically Sophia has balanced her athletic participation carrying a 3.96 GPA in courses such as Body Structure & Functions Science, Medical Terminology, College Language & Composition, College US History, Algebra II and Leadership. “After high school my goal is to attend OIT and pursue a career in a medical field” Sophia told the Compass.

Congratulations Sophia, we are confident that you will continue to be successful in any future endeavor you should choose to pursue.
