High school sports programs are now starting league play in their winter sports regular seasons, and our next outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.

This weeks selection, chosen by Bruin Cheerleading coach, Manya Bruce, is freshman, Sierra Weaver, a freshman in her first year on the Bruin Cheer squad now well into the varsity basketball season after completing a season cheering through the varsity football season with plans to participate on the Bruin girls softball team in the spring.

“Sierra is a freshman this year and has been with us since our season started in June cheering for both football and basketball season, and has shown from day one how dedicated she is to this sport and her team.” coach Bruce told the Compass.

Scholastically, Sierra has also excelled, balancing her athletic participation while carrying  a 3.14 GPA in courses such as Physical Science, Business, Recreational Games and Sports, Honors Language Arts, Concert Choir, Geometry, and Wellness with early aspirations to become an entrepreneur in the cosmetology industry.

Sierra is also youth leader at her church as well as school, who also enjoys hunting with her father, as well as golf and when she is not involved with all the other activities previously listed, she enjoys camping with her family and enjoying outdoor activities.

“It has been an absolute pleasure for Mariah Williams and myself to get to work with her to and to coach her” coach Bruce said. “Sierra plays many sports and has stayed dedicated to her Cheer team even when she is doing multiple sports at one time, never making excuses, is always respectful and willing to help her teammates and and always pushes through”.

Congratulations Sierra, we are confident that you will continue to be successful in any future endeavor you should choose to pursue.

Special thanks to corporate sponsor Barron’s Home Furnishings and who make this recognition possible.
