Local schools are well into Winter sports programs, and another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.
This weeks selection is senior forward, #44, Ashlyn Schofield, a 4 year member of the Bruins girls varsity basketball team, chosen by head coach Kara Miller for her leadership and consistency for the Bruins girls this season.
As a two sport varsity athlete, this weeks selection is a great example, excelling in all aspects of the ‘Star Student Athlete’ program showing leadership, competitiveness, and work ethic while balancing a 3.77 GPA.
“Ashlyn is a leader that encapsulates resilience, competitiveness and encouragement,” coach Miller said. “and when her teammates voted her as a captain this year, they described her as someone who makes even the hard times fun, and a strong leader that sets the example by working hard all the time.”
Scholastically Ashlyn has balanced her athletic participation carrying a 3.75 GPA in courses such as English IV, First aid/CPR, and American government and civics.”
In Ashlyn’s senior year, she has led the team in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game, 8.6 rebounds per game, and 1.5 blocked shots per game, and is leading the team in 3 point shooting percentage. Her versatility and her positive impact on this team is something that is hard to overlook” coach Miller said.
“Ashlyn has the ability to make everyone around her better by helping them believe in themselves and then putting them in positions to succeed, and exemplifies what a student athlete at Brookings-Harbor High School has the potential to be with hard work andd commitment.”
