Just before noon on Thursday, November 12th, 2020, will be a moment that Brooking-Harbor High School varsity baseball player Adam Shew will not soon forget.
Brooking-Harbor High School varsity Senior pitcher Adam Shew took advantage of his ‘signing day’ putting pen to paper and signing his National Letter of Intent to play baseball for the University of San Francisco Dons.
For those who don’t know or understand what a NLI is or means, an NLI is a legal binding contract between the student and the school, meaning the signed student-athlete has promised to one year at the university, the university has committed to provide an athletic scholarship for that year and that the student-athlete’s recruiting journey has ended, and no other schools can continue to recruit the athlete.
Adam started playing T-ball in Mission Viejo, California at the age of 5 and has relentlessly worked for this signing day. Brookings-Harbor varsity head coach Keith Wallin noted Adam’s dedication when he said “Adam took it upon himself to attend voluntary workouts and working at home, and when he showed up at the pitchers and catchers pre-season workout his sophomore year, we noticed he was physically stronger… it was then that we knew that Adam was a determined young man and that the Bruins had something special”.
Adam Shew had a .316 batting average, played infield and pitched. As a pitcher Shew had an overall record of 13-7, 140 strike outs with an earned run average of 1.77 in 104 innings pitched as a Brookings-Harbor Bruin.
“Adam has been an amazing teammate and roll model in our program” BHHS varsity baseball coach Keith Wallin said. “His work ethic is both impressive and contagious. We look forward to his final season with us and many more years of great achievements.” he went on to say.
According to Adam, he attended a baseball clinic prior to his freshman year which led to his being contacted by USF’s Recruiting Coordinator Troy Nakamura regarding a future with the University of San Francisco’s baseball program.
We are very excited about the University of San Francisco baseball team’s 2020 signing class, head coach Nino Giarratano stated on the University of San Francisco baseball programs website. “Troy Nakamura, our Recruiting Coordinator, and Mat Keplinger have done an outstanding job building a top-tier class. We went out and found the right student-athletes to fit USF. We are also very excited about the balance of players in the pitching staff.., and we’re excited to get back to work on building a WCC Champion!”
The University of San Francisco’s main campus is located on a 55-acre setting between the Golden Gate Bridge and Golden Gate Park. The University of San Francisco Dons competes in NCAA Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as members of the West Coast Conference (WCC), of which USF is a charter member.
