BHHS Basketballs Abby Farmer Nominated to McDonald’s All-America

Brookings-Harbor Varsity Girls senior guard standout #00 Abby Farmer received some good news after an impromptu visit from Coach Schofield late Wednesday night.

Coach Schofield knocked on the Farmer’s family door with a to-go order of McDonald’s in hand, special home delivery, to announce Abby’s nomination to the 41st Annual McDonald’s All American® High School Basketball Game. Abby’s reaction…, “That’s awesome. Do I get free french fries or something?” Coach Schofield said.

The player nomination process includes over 200 girls nominated across the nation and marks the start of the selection committees task of choosing the country’s top 24 boys and 24 girls high school basketball players. Final rosters are scheduled to be revealed on Tuesday, January 16th, 2018. The 2018 McDonald’s All American girls’ game will tip at 5 p.m. March 28 on ESPN2.

When asked, Coach Schofield said, “I think it’s awesome. She’s a great kid, great athlete, but an even better person.” “It’s great for her to be recognized like this. A lot of hours in the gym go into making a list like that” he went on to say.

The McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Games feature the top 24 boy and 24 girl players from high schools throughout the United States and sets itself apart from other comparable events in that players are selected based on a systematic voting process.

The Selection Committee, led by committee chair Morgan Wootten, is composed of basketball experts from across the country that review prospect’s fundamental talents and athleticism in the committee’s effort to identify to the top 48. Elements such a player’s accomplishments on the hardwood, fundamental skill level, athleticism and scholastic achievements are all taken into serious consideration when selecting a McDonald’s All American.

The McDonald’s All-American Game refers to the all-star basketball games played each year for American and Canadian boys’ and girls’ high-school basketball graduates. Consisting of the top players, each team plays a single exhibition game after the conclusion of the high-school basketball season, in an East vs. West format. As part of the annual event, boys and girls compete in a three-point shooting competition and an overall timed skills competition. The boys’ game has been contested annually since 1978, and the girls game has been played each year since it was added in 2002.
