After Sunday evenings call from the Incident Management Team to the Chetco Bar Fire for assistance moving it’s base camp from the Harbor location to the new Pedroli Lane location, local students stepped up and helped in a big way.
84 students enrolled in local sports programs from Azalea Middle School and Brookings-Harbor High School met the call as early as 7:30AM and arrived ready to work. They helped disassemble, pack up, unload and reassemble the base camp in short order.
“Some of these kids have their own homes evacuated. They want to give back to the firefighters.” said Azalea Middle School teacher and coach Jason Fulton.
Fulton, and Brookings-Harbor High School Athletic Director Buell Gonzales Jr. along with 10 other adult volunteers helped the students. “Kids want to help, and this is a great way to show their support to the efforts of the firefighters,” said Gonzales.
Thank you Azalea Middle School and Brookings-Harbor High School students!
