The Azalea Middle School Lady Bruin basketball team played their first home game of the 2021/2022 season early Wednesday evening, hosting North Bend.
Early in the season, and playing their second game of this season, the AZ Lady Bruins are in the early stages of coming together as a team, as head coach Kyla Siri works on defensive and offensive fundamentals.
North Bend jumped out early, hitting breakaway lay-ups off of their defense consistently, giving them an early 2-12 lead midway through the first period of play.
The aggressive North Bend defense disrupted the AZ Lady Bruin offense keeping them open looks at the basket and running on changes of possession.
After running up a big double digit lead in the first half of play, coach Siri and the AZ Lady Bruins came out in the second half with a more aggressive defensive adjustment, considerably slowing North Bend.
Talking with head coach Kyla Siri after the game, “These girls have resilience and energy that makes any coach lucky to have them.” she said. “Their growth from Monday’s game against Redwood in Crescent City, makes me really excited for this team and their potential”.
The AZ Lady Bruins will host Marshfield next Wednesday, November 15th at 5:30pm.
