Azalea Bruins Take Down Redwood

On Wednesday the Azalea Bruins boys basketball team took to the road and matched up with Redwood.

The AZ Bruins and Redwood matched up well early on equaling each others scoring in the first-period point for point. The Bruins Fabian Villa #15 and Seth Broberg #23 both had 3 points in the quarter while #14 Bryan Voldovinos and Kaleb Barnes each hit baskets for the Bruins 10 points in the quarter.

Jake Beaman #45 found himself in foul trouble early on and the Bruins were without Brad Russell and Seth Byrd in the game. Coach Fulton said, “We had some step up in scoring tonight which will help us greatly in the future”. Missing two key players, guard Fabian Villa controlled the game helping the Bruins break out in the second period.                                                    Fabian Villa hit two buckets and went 3 for 4 from the free throw line, and Kaleb Barnes led Bruin scorers in the second period hitting four buckets for 8 points as Dylan Hodge #22 hit a 3 pointer and went 2 for 2 from the line as the AZ Bruins lit up the scoreboard for 21 points in the second period.

After holding Redwood to just 7 points in the second period, the Bruins came out in the third period and picked up right where they left  off in the second. Luke Beaman #45 hit 3 baskets and a free throw for 7 points. Fabian Villa, Demetri Pacino #31 and Noah Molnar #33 hit for 4 points each as the AZ Bruins put 22 points up in the third period.

The Bruins would not look back in the game and finished the fourth period strong. Noah Molnar #33 hit two baskets and a free throw for 5 points, #14 Bryan Voldovinos scored 4 points,. Jake Beaman and Seth Broberg got on the board in the fourth as the AZ Bruins took the game 67-57.

Coach Fulton said “We played well. A very complete team win. For the first time this year, we hit our free throws and we played solid defense. Very proud of the boys’ effort”.

The Azalea Bruins travel this weekend to McKinleyville for some more tournament play.
