Azalea Bruins Finish Season with a Win

Tuesday night was the last scheduled league game for the Azalea Bruins boys basketball team as they hosted the Crescent Elks.

At the beginning of the first quarter, the AZ Bruins struggled to keep up with the Elks as Crescent City controlled the key on the inside and shot the lights out from the outside. The Elks hit five 3 pointers in the first period, two baskets and went 3 of 4 from the line.

But the Bruins were not going to let the game to get too far out of control as they put four players in the scoring books in the period hitting two 3 pointers of their own on their way to putting up 16 points in the first.

The second period turned into a defensive struggle to keep control of the ball and the time. While holding the Elks to half of their output in the first period, the AZ Bruins managed only 9 points, 5 of which came from Fabian Villa #15 as the Bruins trailed 28-32 at the halftime break.

Jake Beaman #45 looks to make the pass into the paint while driving the baseline.

Both teams came out in the third period asserting themselves defensively and the Bruins won that battle holding the Elks to just 5 points in the third period.
Brad Russell #42 kept the Bruins in the game scoring 6 of the Bruins 10 points in the quarter off of two buckets and 2 of 4 from the free throw line.

In the fourth period, the AZ Bruins defense took control of the game by out rebounding the Crescent Elks and getting to the basket and free throw line. The Bruins put 14 points up in the period and ended the game with a 50-39 win.

The Azalea Bruins will use this game as preparation for this weekends Jay-Cee’s tournament in Crescent City when they face off against Sequoia.
