The Azalea Middle School Bruins continue their march through the season with another one-sided victory Tuesday afternoon on the road, taking on Bandon.
The AZ Bruins wasted no time, taking the first play from scrimmage, and sending the quarterback Deryk Farmer #24 around the right edge for a 65 yard touchdown run, putting the AZ Bruins up 8-0, very early in the first quarter.
The defense for AZ Bruins shut down the Bandon running game, forcing the Bandon offense off the field, giving the Bruins more offensive opportunities. The offense put up over 175 yards of offense from 5 offensive possessions in the first half.
The Azalea offense had over 100 yards passing, with 40 yards coming from a pass completion to Noah Bond #1, and a 30 yard completion to Owen Austin #10, giving quarterback Deryk Farmer over 100 yards passing for the first time.
The Bandon defense could not contain the Azalea running game that scored on all five offensive possessions in the first half of play. Deryk Farmer #24, had two touchdown runs for over 100 yards rushing, a 35 yard blast was opened by the offensive line for Skylar Tribur #32, as well as a 40 yard sweep to the left by Tristan Long #14.
Azalea would go on to take the 46-8 win after a late drive and score by Bandon. Talking with coach Daryn Farmer after the game, he told the Compass, “Many good things came out of the game, we continue to play an aggressive defense, and offensively coach Tony Baron wanted more passing, so we made that a focus. By far this was our most productive passing game.”
The AZ Bruins will be on the road again next Wednesday traveling to Coquille for a 4:00pm kick-off.
